Strategic Management is an area of study that primarily deals with problems and processes of appropriately matching the business with its environment. This course is designed to offer knowledge and tools for maneuvering the business in a competitive environment for the strategic advantage of the business. This course intends to impart basic knowledge and skills in formulating, implementing, and evaluating business strategies. The existing or future environments bring serious challenges to businesses in their attempt to remain competitive. The course aims to enable students to identify problems confronting businesses and make strategic decisions for the overall improvement in the performance of the business. These decisions will also enable the business to survive and compete in a complex global environment. Businesses from developing countries in the Pacific, such as Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, and others, have attempted to assert themselves in the global markets. However, many businesses in these small island states still lack the resources and level of competitive environment that allow them to bring about innovative strategies.
