Welcome to 'Gender, Global Change & Development in a Comparative Perspective'. Gender is an important aspect of contemporary development. Its significance to the development process is reflected in the commitment by governments, development agencies, non-government organisations and communities in ensuring that gender equity of development benefits and equality of participation in society's well-being is a key strategy among national leaders. Understanding processes of gender power relations, aspects of development at the global and national levels and the changes that may result all contribute to efforts to enhance gender equality in our society. This course was designed to broaden your knowledge and appreciation of development as a gendered process.
