This course emphasizes on descriptive statistics and basics of probability theory which includes: collection and organisation of statistical data, frequency distributions, graphical presentation, measure of positions, measure of central tendency and dispersion; sample spaces; events; probability measures; independent events; conditional probability; random variables, mean and variance of a random variable; binomial distribution; normal distribution; normal approximation to binomial distribution; sampling distributions; sampling distribution of mean, t- distribution; chi-square distribution; tests of significance for means and proportions, p-values, test of goodness of fit, tests using contingency tables and test for homogeneity of proportions; and correlation and regression.
